Package Overview

On this safari, you will visit Akagera National park, it’s tucked in the eastern part of Rwanda along the borderline with Tanzania and covers an area of 1,122Km2. So the park is named after River Akagera which flows along the eastern boundary feeding various lakes the largest being Ihema. 

Akagera is Rwanda’s largest national park with an immense range of habitats and biodiversity. Its ecosystem ranges from papyrus swamps, forest fringed lakes, undulating savanna plains and highlands which shelter an assortment of flora and fauna. Some of the wildlife include; the African Big mammals like the African Bush Elephants, Buffalos, Leopards and Lions. Because of its diverse wildlife, the park is popular for wildlife and game viewing safaris in Rwanda

Besides there’re others like Sitatungas, Oribis, Bushbucks, Giraffes and many more. Birds are well represented with species like the Shoebill Stork, Grey Crowned Cranes, Squacco Herons etc. But there are also Primates like Vervets and Secretive Blue Monkey among others.

Akagera’s vastness and open savannas offer a remarkable scene for wildlife viewing. So the park can be browsed on safari game drives along various trails as well as boat safaris. The park is manage by the African Parks organization which has managed to restore it to its diversity.

Note: Welcome to the Remarkable Rwanda! You will be warmly received by our guide at Kigali International Airport on arrival. He will then transfer you to the hotel in Kigali where you will have overnight stay.

[Optional: Depending on time of arrival, you may opt for a city tour around Kigali and visit places like the Genocide memorial center and/or Presidential Palace museum].

Overnight (o/n): Kigali Serena hotel (Luxury)/ Gorillas Golf Hotel (Midrange)/ City Center Hotel Kigali (Basic); Bed & Breakfast.

Package Itinerary

Depart Kigali after breakfast at the hotel, transfer east of the country to the park enjoying the pleasant countryside through Rwamagana- Rwinkwavu. On arrival, you will be checked in at the booked accommodation where you will have your stay.
Today, you will take part in a cultural experience in the afternoon after lunch, [only if there is a minimum of 3 people]. On this cultural experience, you have an African safari moment of trying the Imigongo paintings; a popular piece of art in Rwanda, Sampling of Honey on the comb, Kinyarwanda dance and many more cultural experiences. Return to the lodge for your dinner and overnight stay.

Meal Plan: Half Board [HB], O/night: Magashi Akagera lodge (Luxury) /Akagera Game lodge or Ruzizi Tented lodge (Midrange) /Karenge Bush Camp (Standard)

Start off with a hearty breakfast at the lodge, then hit the undulating savanna plains of the park for a game viewing experience. On this half day game drive, you will see lots of wildlife including the big and small game of Africa like Roan Antelopes, Giraffes, African Elephants, Lions occasionally, Duiker and many others. The scenery offers great Kodak moments.
Have a lunch break in the afternoon, and later, you will participate in a remarkable boat cruise on Lake Ihamba where you might get chance to capture the thrill of the African sunset over the tranquil waters of the lake. On this cruise, expect to see wildlife like Hippopotamuses, Crocodiles and others along the shores and nearby in the swamps. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Depart for a morning boat cruise after breakfast, on this cruise, you will capture the morning thrill of the wilderness and along the breathtaking waters of the lake. You will see lots of birds such as; the Ross’ Turaco, Crested Barbet, Black-headed Gonolek and many more. The morning is also an opportune moment to see more wildlife to add on your game count as it lingers along the shoreline.
Have lunch at the lodge and later checkout and transfer back to Kigali.
You will be dropped off at the hotel or at the Airport for your flight back home.
