Package Overview

On this exquisite safari in Rwanda, a country proclaimed as the “Land of a thousand hill” because of its endless and towering hills, you will explore Volcanos and Akagera national parks. You will enjoy the grandeur of nature on your five days of safari in this small fine African country. You will track the Gorillas in Volcanos and wildlife in Akagera.

Rwanda offers other impressive African experiences though its mainly known for its extraordinary Gorilla tracking adventures. These include the big and small game wildlife experiences and safaris in Akagera National park

On this Rwanda wildlife safari, you will trail through the misty forest of the Virunga massif in Volcanoes National Park. Here you will take on a lifechanging Gorilla trekking adventure to witness the world’s biggest Great Apes. Once you meet the Mountain Gorilla on your trek, you spend a full hour in their presence watching them gently munching tree shots.

Additionally, you will also explore the undulating golden-yellow savannas of Africa on a game viewing safari within Akagera national park. You will navigate the park on a safari game drive to see some of the members of the African Big Five.

Note: Welcome to the Land of a Thousand hills! On the day of arrival, you will be warmly received by our guide at Kigali International Airport and then transfer to the hotel in Kigali where you will have your overnight stay.

Package Itinerary

Today after an early breakfast, transfer to Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you will get to know about the events that unfolded during the 100 days of the historical genocide in Rwanda. Later take on a remarkable journey east of the country to Akagera national park where you arrive in the early evening hours, and check-in at the accommodation where you will have your stay.

Meal Plan: Half Board [HB], O/night: Magashi Akagera lodge (Luxury) / Ruzizi Tented lodge or Akagera Game lodge (Midrange) /Karenge Bush Camp (Standard)

Today after breakfast, you will transfer for a morning game drive browsing the rolling savanna plains to see the wildlife especially the big game of Africa such as the; Lions, Leopards, Elephants, Buffalos and others like the Giraffes, Roan Antelopes and many more.
Have a lunch break and afterwards, you will enjoy an exquisite boat cruise on Lake Ihamba where you have an opportune moment to spot various wildlife. On the boat cruise, expect to wildlife like Hippopotamuses, Crocodiles and others along the shores and nearby in the swamps. Transfer back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Kickoff the day with an early hearty breakfast at the lodge, checkout and hit the road on the drive northwestwards of the country to Ruhengeri – Volcanos National park. The drive northwards of the country will reward you with scenic view of the countryside.

Today after breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters at Kinigi where you will meet with the ranger who takes you through the gorilla trekking etiquette and subsequently, start off the activity. The activity may last just a few hours to some good hours (3-6) depending on where the gorillas nested and many other factors like the pace of the trekkers.
Gorilla tracking is extremely adventurous and demanding, as a result, one needs to be reasonably fit. Trekking involves moving past steep and slippery terrain; and once you encounter the Mountain Gorillas, you spend an hour in their presence watching them and afterwards, retreat to the reception area.

After breakfast, checkout of the lodge and hit the road on the journey back to Kigali. You may decide to take on a city tour and visit local markets and other interesting features. Later have lunch before you are dropped off at the airport for your international flight back home and this will mark the end of your safari.
